Happy Fall! I hope you're all acclimating to your busy autumn schedule, with lots of auditions and projects.
I had a wonderful June of learning, creating, and connecting, first at my writing residency through Leviathan Lab at Barn Arts Collective to develop my solo show FULL CONTACT (directed by Andrew Borthwick-Leslie, movement by Sheila Bandyopodhyay, and dramaturgy by Lynde Rosario); and then at the Theatre Communications Group National Conference as a member of its 2018 Rising Leaders of Color cohort. I also started at my position as the Marketing Associate for an organization whose mission I believe deeply in: The Tank.
I also had the great pleasure in June to have produced a Leviathan Lab reading of longtime friend and BILLIONS star Daniel K. Isaac's SEX PLAY, directed by the fabulous Carlos Armesto (Theatre C); and a Leviathan Lab co-production (with Theatre C) of a 29-hour reading of Leviathan Musical Theatre Advisor Robert Lee and writing partner Leon Ko's musical HEADING EAST, starring the incomparable BD Wong, and also directed by Armesto. Leviathan Lab also supported an exploratory workshop of Sheila Bandyopodhyay's rock musical RISE/FALL in June.
I also shot a co-star role in a new CBS Online series TELL ME A STORY in July, and my co-star appearance in CBS' BLUE BLOODS re-aired during primetime. I also spent July as Director of Marketing for the shows for Planet Connections Festivity Theatre Festival.
On July 23rd, I was asked to present the nominations for the NY Innovative Theatre Awards at their "IT Party" this year, and was pleased to learn that the Phoenix Theatre Ensemble production of TARTUFFE I played Cléante in late 2017 was nominated for Best Actor (John Lenartz) and Best Costumes (Debbi Hobson).
In early August, I puppeteered for a wonderful web series OCCUPY: THE WHITE HOUSE SPRITES, along with my longtime friend and fellow puppeteer Jen Barnhardt of Avenue Q and Sesame Street. Look for a special screening of the newest episodes of the web series at The Tank in October as part of Leviathan Lab's Living Room series, presented in association with Asian American Film Lab, as a fundraiser for Immigrant Families Together!
In late August, I did a 29-hour reading of Erik Jareth Ransom's play in verse CIVIL BLOOD as part of the Summer Fresh Festival, directed by Rachel Klein, and starring Brandon Haagenson (Off-Broadway: AFTERGLOW). I also recorded an interview with actor/comedian Sandie Cheng for her podcast on forgotten history NOW IN COLOR, speaking about the Filipino American War, colonialism in actor training, and more.
Finally, I started rehearsal this week playing Benny Conklin in Live Source Theatre Group's production of SUDDENLY, playing at HERE Arts Center from October 5 -20! Also in early October, I'll be producing a reading of Ma-Yi Writers Lab member Cate Yu's magical play THE SUN EXPERIMENT, directed by Danny Sharon.
I hope to see/work with you this fall. Thanks to The Tank's mid-town location, I've been taking lots of meetings with folks, checking in, talking shop. Email me to get together for coffee!
