Ariel will reprise his role as Susumu in Prospect Theater Company (2016 Obie Award Grantee) and National Asian Artists Project's (Baayork Lee, Executive Artistic Director) Concert Reading of Peter Mills and Cara Loelle Reichel's brilliant musical HONOR, as part of Prospect's IGNITE Concert Reading Series at The Times Center at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10th. Mills is a honoree of multiple national awards for musical theater composition and lyrics, including the ASCAP Cole Porter Award, the Kleban Award for Lyrics, and the Fred Ebb Award for Emerging Songwriters.
Originally presented by Prospect as a full production directed by Reichel in NYC in 2008, HONOR is based on Shakespeare's beloved comedy AS YOU LIKE IT, and is set in feudal Japan. The musical's development and production casts included Asian American actor-luminaries Christine Toy Johnson, Alan Ariano, Lydia Gaston, Diane De Boer, Dave Shih, Ali Ewoldt (THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, Broadway), Jose Llana (HERE LIES LOVE, THE KING & I, Broadway revival), Ming Lee (Front Cover), Jaygee Macapugay (HERE LIES LOVE, SCHOOL OF ROCK, Broadway), and star of CW's hit comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Vincent Rodriguez III.
The September 10 concert reading will feature many actors fresh from their Broadway appearances in ALLEGIANCE and THE KING AND I, including Raul Aranas, Cáitlín Burke, Eymard Cabling, Karl Josef Co, Steven Eng, Diana Huey, Brian Jose, Whit K. Lee, Mel Maghuyop, Toren Nakamura, Manna Nichols, Koh Mochizuki, Romney Piamonte, Toshiji Takeshima, Robert Torigoe, Scott Watanabe, and EJ Zimmerman.
The concert cast will also include members of the NAAP Broadway Community Chorus Ya Han Chang, Andy Danh, David Eng, Francine Espiritu, Natsuko Hirano, Kennedy Kanagawa, Karin Kawamoto, Jung Kim, Yuko Kudo, Colin Miyamoto, Nathan Napier, Andrew Sakaguchi, Riza Takahashi, Sam Tanabe, Isabelle Van Vleet, and Viet Vo; along with members of the NAAP Kids Theater Club.
The concert will be directed by Reichel, with music direction by Yan Li, assistant direction by Cassey Kivnick (Mike Ockrent Fellowship), and stage management by Veronica Aglow.
