David Henry Hwang’s “My Anniversary” as part of Theatre For One’s DÉJÀ VU, June 9-26 at Signature Theatre

Other plays in the series include works by DeLanna Studi, Samuel D. Hunter, and, Lynn Nottage, as part of Signature Theatre’s SigSpace program in The Pershing Square Signature Center Lobby.

Signature Theatre’s SigSpace—which brings artistic programming to the Pershing Square Signature Center’s public spaces, including its lobby—again joins forces with Theatre for One to present six one-on-one, five-to-six minute theatrical experiences beginning June 9.

Déjà Vu features the world premiere of a new microplay by Samuel D. Hunter, whose Signature Premiere Residency continues in the 2022-2023 season with A Bright New Boise, plus five works from Theatre for One, many presented at Signature in 2016, including those written by José Rivera, DeLanna Studi, and former Signature resident playwrights David Henry Hwang, Regina Taylor, and Lynn Nottage.

Featured works include Hunter’s Brick, directed by SRĐA; Hwang’s My Anniversary, directed by Tiffany Nichole Greene; Nottage’s #Five, directed by Greene; Rivera’s Lizzy, directed by Rudy Ramirez; Studi’s Before America Was America, directed by Ramirez; and Taylor’s Déjà Vu, directed by Greene. Each day will have a different combination of works running in rep; prior to entering the booths, audiences won’t know which of these works will be presented.

Theatre for One’s mobile performance space—a new, ADA-accessible, COVID-safe booth built last summer—is stationed in the Griffin Lobby at the Center on weekends June 9–26 (Thursdays and Fridays 5–9 PM, Saturdays 3–7 PM, Sundays 2–6 PM).

Tickets become available Tuesdays before each week’s performances. For more information click here.

ABOUT THEATRE FOR ONE

Theatre for One is a mobile state-of-the-art and COVID safe performance space for one actor and one audience member. Conceived by Artistic Director Christine Jones and designed by LOT-EK architects, Theatre for One commissions new work created specifically for this venue's one-to-one relationship. Embracing serendipity and spontaneity, Theatre for One is presented in public spaces in which audience members are invited to engage in an intimate theatrical exchange and enter the theatre space not knowing what to expect. Actor and audience member encounter each other as strangers in this suspended space and through the course of the performance allow the divisions and distinctions that separate us to dissolve. www.theatreforone.com
